FAQ

Common questions

Accounts and getting started

How do I open a Nexus account?

Sign up with your name, email, and a password. Your account and its ten-digit account number are created immediately, and your community admin is notified to verify you.

What can I do before I'm verified?

You can sign in, view your balance and history, and receive funds straight away. Sending money out — ACH, wire, or crypto — stays locked until your admin approves your verification.

What is my Nexus account number?

A ten-digit number assigned to you at signup, shown on your dashboard. Share it with another member so they can send funds to you inside Nexus.

Do I get a crypto wallet as well?

Yes. A deposit address is generated for each supported asset when your account is created, and you'll find them on your dashboard alongside your fiat balance.

Why can't I add money to my own account?

Funding is admin-only by design. It is what keeps the community ledger balanced — every dollar in the system was put there deliberately by your admin and can be traced back to that entry.

Identity verification

What do I need to get verified?

Your legal name as it appears on your ID, date of birth, US residential address, phone number, the last four digits of your Social Security number, and a state-issued ID, driver's license, or US passport.

Why do you need my Social Security number?

US financial institutions are expected to identify their customers before opening an account, and the last four digits are the standard way to do that alongside a government ID.

Do you store my full Social Security number?

No. Nexus only ever collects and stores the last four digits. The full number is never requested and never held.

What if I don't have a US-issued ID?

Open the Verification page and request a bypass. Explain your situation and your community admin can review it and approve your account without the standard documents.

My verification was declined — what happens now?

Your admin leaves a note explaining why, usually a mismatch between your details and your ID. Correct it and submit again; there is no limit on resubmissions.

How long does verification take?

Most members are verified by their community admin within one business day of signing up.

Sending money

What transfer types are supported?

ACH, wire, and crypto transfers, all reviewed by your admin before they clear.

Why does my transfer say Pending?

Every outgoing transfer is reviewed by a person before it clears. Pending means it has been submitted successfully and is waiting on your admin.

Is the money taken from my balance straight away?

Yes. The amount is held the moment you submit, so the same funds can't be committed twice while the transfer is under review. Your available balance reflects the hold immediately.

What's the difference between my available and total balance?

Total is everything in your account. Available is what you can actually spend right now — total minus anything held against a transfer that is still pending review.

Can I cancel a transfer after submitting it?

Not from your own account. Message your admin through support chat while it is still pending and they can decline it, which returns the money to you in full.

What happens if my transfer is declined?

The full amount returns to your available balance and no ledger entry is posted, so a declined transfer leaves your balance exactly where it started. Your admin can attach a note explaining the decision.

Are there fees?

Fees are set by your community admin. Where one applies it is shown before you confirm and itemised separately on your receipt, so the amount leaving your account is never a surprise.

Security and access

How long do I stay signed in?

A session lasts seven days, after which you'll be asked to sign in again. Signing out ends it immediately.

How do I reset my password?

Contact your community admin. Nexus accounts are admin-managed, so for your security they confirm your identity before making the change rather than emailing a reset link.

What does it mean if my account is frozen?

You can still sign in and see your full balance and history, but transactions are blocked until your admin unfreezes the account. Ask them directly why it was frozen.

Who can see my account information?

You and your community admin. Other members can't see your balance, your history, or your verification details — only the account number you choose to share with them.

Can I talk to a real person?

Yes. Support chat is built in — use the bubble in the bottom corner once you're signed in and your community admin replies in the same thread.

Records and tax

Can I get a receipt for a transfer?

Every transaction has a full receipt showing the amount, any fee, the parties, the reference, and its current status. You can view it in the app or download it as a PDF.

How do I get a statement?

The Statements page produces a statement of account for any period you choose, with opening and closing balances, totals in and out, and every entry in between.

Will I get tax documents?

You get an annual summary and a crypto disposal worksheet on the Tax page, covering money in, money out, fees, and every crypto disposal matched first-in, first-out with its gain or loss and holding period. You can download it as CSV. Nexus does not file 1099s or any other return with the IRS, and none of this is tax advice — hand it to whoever prepares your return.
